Your Challenge:

This is a newly created and critical leadership position that will provide the business unit with effective management of the engineering resources to sustain growth, foster innovation and produce products that meet customer requirements and company profitability objectives. The Director of Engineering requires a proven leader with a track record of managing managers, strategic thinking, change management, and direct stakeholder engagement. The position will plan, direct and manage engineering activities associated within this business unit.  In addition to the management and direction of the Engineering Department, the position will represent the company as a high-level advisor, be prepared to present to all levels of management and provide customer support by assisting sales management in securing contracts as a high-level management representative of the company.  This position reports to the GM of the BU.

  • Build, lead, and grow a high-performing engineering organization, creating an environment of trust, teamwork, accountability, clear expectations, continuous improvement, and success.

  • Provide leadership and direction to the engineering department, by understanding the various engineering disciplines on the team and how they work together to fulfill our customers needs

  • Manage, and assign design and development engineering resources

  • Manage engineers at all levels, to include managers/supervisors of engineers.  Retain necessary technical competence to engage and understand required technical discussions and resulting decisions.

  • Manage the product development process to achieve necessary development objectives and comply with requirements set by the NQA-1 and ISO Quality Management Systems

  • Periodically present and/or communicate engineering activities and status to upper management and other cross functional departments as needed

  • Work with management to assure the strategic direction of the Engineering Department is aligned with the company’s goals and objectives

  • Develop annual department expense budget to utilize all engineering resources and meet product and technology development requirements of the company

  • Develop annual capital budget to identify capital requirements to establish and maintain the engineering department functions, and also identify and budget for necessary capital to produce developed products.

  • Work with management to integrate, align and reorganize engineering groups from other existing or newly acquired CW business units in support of business strategies

  • Demonstrate a strong customer focus by listening to, recognizing, and responding to customer input in an effective, timely and courteous manner

  • Take initiative as problems and opportunities arise by anticipating and meeting customer needs and company expectations

Your Expertise:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree preferred

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration preferred

  • Recommended minimum of 10 years’ experience in managing supervisors and engineers and/or technical resources for projects with average team size ranging from 1-25

  • Accomplished leadership of managing technical resources and achieving results as a team

  • Excellent analysis and decision-making skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Some travel required

Preferred

  • Experience with managing electrical, mechanical, computer and software engineering.
