Summary
The Vice President (VP) of Engineering provides strategic and operational leadership for all engineering functions. The VP is responsible for ensuring the design, maintenance, and enhancement of nuclear systems comply with federal regulations, industry standards, and internal quality and safety expectations. The VP leads multidisciplinary engineering teams, drives innovation, supports licensing and regulatory compliance, and contributes to the facility’s long-term operational excellence and safety culture.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline (Required).
- Master’s Degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline (Preferred).
Experience
- 15 years’ experience in the nuclear power industry including ten years in a management position (Required).
License/Certifications
- Professional Engineering License (Preferred).
Essential Responsibilities
- Expertise in probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) and deterministic safety analysis.
- Knowledge of digital modernization initiatives and cybersecurity standards (e.g., NEI 08-09).
- Familiarity with INPO/WANO performance objectives and plant evaluation protocols.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience with large capital projects, risk-informed engineering, and aging management programs.
Fiscal Accountability
Maintains fiscal records and procedures of the department to ensure effective and efficient operations of the department.
- Understands and manages to financial and budget targets. Incorporates financial analysis into strategic decisions.
- Proactively monitors and interprets ongoing financial performance and responds strategically.
- Incorporates financial analysis into strategic decisions and takes accountability for financial decisions within area.
People Management
- Ensures development plans are in place and followed.
- Performs personnel activities for direct reports (promotions, salary changes, counseling, performance appraisals).
- Prepares and delivers oral and written communications relating to work group and station activities (e.g., reports, presentations, department meetings).
- Monitors work group reports and recommendations to assure evaluations, assessments and support are effectively developed and communicated.
- Develops and maintains appropriate technical expertise within the work group to ensure adequate talent to perform meaningful assessments and program oversight.
- Represents department/company on internal work teams and committees and with external entities.
- Maintains composure in high stress or adverse situations.
- Understands and implements company policies.
- Provides employees with tools and training necessary for them to perform their assignments.
Special Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance and outage management of nuclear power plants.
- Knowledge of Station and Company procedures and processes.
Other Responsibilities
- Accept Outage position.
- Accept ERO position and be able to meet the response requirements.
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access if needed.
- Successfully complete General Employee Training (GET) as required for position.
Environmental & Physical Requirements (Non-Plant)
- Environmental and physical requirements are subject to crouching, stooping, bending, twisting and/or lifting up to 30 lbs; ascending/descending stairs; sitting for extended periods of time; and spending considerable time in front of computer monitors.
Working Conditions
- Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.
- Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.
- Travel may be required.
- May be required to carry a phone.
Work Location - Site versus Hybrid/Remote
Site – Due to the nature of the work, this position requires work to be performed in the field and/or at the work site.
