About the Role
Roblox is seeking an experienced and visionary Director of Engineering to lead our Safety Accounts Team, driving innovation in areas critical to user safety and platform integrity. You will be responsible for advancing the state of our authentication systems, combating bots and spam with cutting-edge machine learning techniques, and enhancing identity verification capabilities. This role requires deep technical expertise and strategic leadership to deliver large-scale, high-impact systems that safeguard our global community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team focused on account safety and user trust.
- Own the strategy, architecture, and execution of systems related to:
- Authentication and access control
- Bot and spam mitigation (including ML-based unsupervised approaches)
- Identity and attribute verification (face-based age estimation, geographic location checks, age verification, etc.)
- Collaborate closely with Product, Data Science, Trust & Safety Operations, and Platform Engineering teams to shape the roadmap and drive execution.
- Ensure reliability, performance, and scalability of all account security systems.
- Champion security fundamentals and best practices across the organization.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Stay ahead of emerging trends in security, fraud detection, and ML-based prevention methods.
- Provide coaching and development to engineering leads and ICs to help them reach their potential.
What We’re Looking For
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in technical leadership roles.
- Proven track record in building and maintaining large-scale distributed systems.
- Deep expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- Authentication and account security
- Bot/spam detection and prevention
- Identity and signal-based user verification
- Strong knowledge of system architecture, reliability, and scalability best practices.
- Skilled in relevant languages and technologies used in high-scale systems.
- Exceptional communication, project management, and team-building skills.
- Passion for building systems that protect and empower users.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ML-driven spam/bot detection, including unsupervised or semi-supervised learning methods.
- Experience in building facial recognition, age estimation, or location verification systems.
- Background in Trust & Safety, fraud detection, or compliance-focused environments.
- Experience working on platforms used by children or young users.

The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.
